Beware! Purple finger syndrome is on the loose!

The purple finger syndrome is a rare yet deadly disease that is now pandemic among the students of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme Chemistry. Discovered when a blast shook a student’s reaction and sprayed him with the deadly toxic compound that seems to be the origin of the syndrome.

A very worried student, infected with this hitherto unprecedented disease, Divya Patel laments ‘Now I do not know what is happening to me! My fingers are turning purple and this is gradually spreading all over my body!’ This unknown enigmatic syndrome is causing a maelstrom of questions to be raised, the students now fear for their lives! While the chemistry lab assistants and their teachers scramble to figure out this new scientific enigma, the school is in doldrums.  The only known features of this mysterious disease is that it causes your fingers to become purple and thus its name, it is feared to be highly infectious and cause explosions around the person affected. This stems from many an apparatus exploding in the chemistry lab during the experiment that gave birth to this inexplicable malady.

Motor Biking: My new found Passion

Biking as in physical ‘bicycling’ has been my passion for many long years.

My biking escapades have been worth-publishing since I learnt biking at the tender age of 4. These chronicles range from my bother wildly chasing after me during my first ride, to my many a ‘haunted’ house explorations and me often falling into a variety of flora, fauna (sometimes neither of them being present to ‘pin- cushion’ my fall).

Cycling has been ever present in my life and I have always loved to cycle. Cycling to school, to mum’s university, to plays, supermarkets, games; Cycling past the many lakes of Lake district, England’s castles, ancient rivers, age-old colleges of Cambridge and antique architecture of many a country; to new age bridges of San Francisco, London and Glasgow, modern skyscrapers of Boston, London, Delhi, and the latest laboratories of Cambridge and MIT- I have done it all! I have plenty of scars (trophies!) to vouch for and remind me of my very many bicycle escapades. However, as these start to fade I discover a new form of biking- Motor biking (much to my excitement and my parents’ lack of…)

Rarely have I have ever ridden a motor bike before; and on every one of those rides I have had some sort of supervision (May it be the pillion riding parent or the watchful eye of an overprotective sibling). Today was the first day I discovered the sights of my town on my own. This serendipity happened to happen when mother behest me the responsibility of going grocery shopping. I was given the keys to the bike and with the key came the long well-rehearsed speech of "take care while riding".  After reassuring my mother that I shall be alright and not bump into some poor bloke I reared up the bike and set off on my chore.

Well, who knew that this chore was to lead me to my new found passion- biking?

I had had a long day and mom knew this trip would help me unwind (and was she right!). Feeling the wind gush past me, whipping through my hair, tousling it about here and there as it pleased as I whip past the traffic; forgetting and leaving everything behind me in my wake filled me with so much zeal and enthusiasm for life that I have become captivated the act of biking.

It is so very different from cycling! Cycling is definitely better for one’s health and helps de-stress in its own enchanting way. However, for one who loves speed, design and the working of a motor- biking is addictive. In the past few days I have learnt tonnes about the bike motor and a bike's functioning. After I finish my IB I am totally apprenticing at a mechanic shop!

Physics + wind +speed + peace = my new found haven! Who knew biking could be such an entrancing sport? Well, surely not me!

Looking forward to biking more often…
